European Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS) includes ToxTracker for MoA assessment of cosmetics ingredients

The European Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS) recently released their updated guidance document ‘Notes of Guidance for the Testing of Cosmetic Ingredients and Their Safety Evaluation’. This document contains relevant information on the different aspects of testing and safety evaluation of cosmetic substances and provides guidance to authorities and the cosmetic industry to improve harmonised compliance with the current cosmetic EU legislation. A section on Weight of Evidence and the use of a ‘toolbox’ strategy for additional genotoxicity testing has newly been included. ToxTracker is part of this toolbox and indicated as a suitable reporter gene assay for Weight of Evidence purposes in toxicological studies on cosmetic ingredients.
